Punishment & Child Discipline:  Facts, Myths & Principles

This 6 credit CE course provides the professional with a conceptual knowledge of punishment, contrasting a procedural versus outcome-oriented definition. The book, Punishment on Trial: A Resource Guide to Child Discipline (free on-line) is the main source of the material for the course.  Following a conceptual understanding of outcome-oriented punishment (Section I), several myths regarding punishment are examined (Section II). The basic principles in using punishment contingencies are detailed in Section  III of the book.  Finally, a responsible model for using punishment in solving child behavior problems is given (Section IV).
